The Jacob´s ladder is one of the most ancient and famous folk optical toys. Legend has it that one was found in king tut´s tomb, which means these toys were played with in egypt before 1352 b.c. What is really true is that these toys date back to pilgrim times in america and were made by indigenous craftsmen throughout Mexico. The toy is called jacob´s ladder because its seemingly tumbling of blocks is said to resemble a dream of angels continuously ascending and descending a ladder to heaven as dreamed by the biblical patriarch Jacob (Genesis 28:12). This ladder of Jacob reproduces images of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. By a twist of the wrist, alternatively both are appearing at viewer. Note the clever screening of strings to allow with this flick of the wrist, the tablets change ends dragging each other.

I have both Qtopia 2.2.0 (PDA edition) Qtopia 4.2.1 (phone edition) running on the Nokia770 using a comercial Embedded Linux based on 2.6.14 kernel and GCC 3.4.4 as crrsc-sompileo. I am not a Linux or Qtopia expert, but so far the Qtopia 2.2.0 version is much faster then the 4.2.1 . Getting it to work was purly finding the right configuration.
